This
station originally started out
as Lite FM. As it's name suggested,
it played easy-listening music
for it's target older audience
demographic. Then they discovered
that there weren't that many
'older' listeners in Dublin.
So what did they do? They applied
to the Broadcasting
Commission of Ireland to
're-brand' as Q102.
The
BCI fell for the trick and the
result? Another radio station
playing a mix of music similar
to 98FM, occasionally playing
the odd 'hit'. The station's
demographic grew, but time will
tell if that was a wise move.
My
prediction: Q102 will live to
regret the fact that they went
after the already saturated
18 to 35 market share.
