RADIO CAROUSEL, NAVAN.

The Navan studio of Radio Carousel came on the air in 1981 and was an immediate success. The station was located right in the middle of the busy Navan Shopping Centre. It occupied two hexagonal units - one for a studio and the other (pictured below) was the reception area.

The station used to receive many reception reports from radio enthusiasts right across Europe. The signal on 1386 kHz - with about one kilowatt of power output - travelled thousands of miles during the hours of darkness, particularly just before sunrise. On the wall you can see the many radio station stickers that were sent in by listeners. Pictured below is Kieran Murray (the first voice heard on Radio Carousel) and Chris Pain.
