This was the lead up: Ireland 1990 World Cup Finals Draws v England (1-1, Sheedy), v Egypt (0-0) & Holland (1-1, Quinn), and a penalty shoot-out v Romania (5-4) take Ireland to the World Cup Quarter Finals v Italy (0-1, Schillaci). The stadium was awash with Irish Flags. The Italians loved the Irish fans and there was a carnival atmosphere there. But unfortunately Schillaci put and end to the Irish dream. Never mind, for most Irish fans it was just getting to the Quarter Finals of The 1990 World Cup was a dream... |
