FEBRUARY 1987: BOYNESIDE RADIO, DROGHEDA, COUNTY LOUTH

This is the main on-air studio for Boyneside Radio, two months before the premises were raided by the Gardaí [Irish police]. Pictured is Eddie Caffrey (AKA Headie Eddie), doing his afternoon show.

The studio equipment included a 12-channel mixer, 4 cassette decks, 2 turntables (for playing the vinyl records!). To the left of Eddie, you can see a box with all the cassettes there. Each cassette, which had no lead-in tape, contained a recorded commercial. The idea was that the cassettes could be lined up in all 4 cassette decks, each ready for instant start. This ensured there were no gaps between the different commercials.
