JANUARY 1987: BOYNESIDE RADIO, DROGHEDA, COUNTY LOUTH

This is the AM Transmitter. Built by Eddie Caffrey, the signal and sound quality was BIG and powerful. The glass tubes [4 on thier side beside the fan and four vertical to the right of the photograph] are called 813 valves. The AM site was located to the rear of the Rossnaree Hotel, just south of Drogheda Town.

Many years later, I learned that the residents of the hotel used to complain that someone was playing music in their room, throughout the night. What they were actually hearing was the sound of the audio coming from the large powerful modulation transformer of the transmitter, which was located in wooden shed at the back of the hotel.
